Could an electric sports car ever be popular?

One of the sports car enthusiasts love things of his wanderings is the strong, guttural sounds of the engine. Electric cars are generally very quiet. What sports car lovers will never accept a quiet, electric sports car? Yes, I know that over all. But if I see someone on the observation of an engine sound. It seems a very important factor to judge a sports car. Suppose that we can get power to the road and the operating costs of the gas is no different, you will still catch on sports?
the sound is only a very small part of it. the power, reliability, cost both upfront and long term maintenance all make a big difference. and with what i have read about electric cars they have an extreme long ways to go to be as cost effective and power full as a gas or diesel engine. not to mention charging them dang electrics is expensive.
I doubt that electric sports cars would ever be taken seriously. The sound, the power, the smell of fuel, the smoke, the burning rubber just wouldn’t be there. Even if electric cars were to become commonplace, real car enthusiasts would still drive gas-powered cars, if they are still available.
I think it definitely can be! Think about it: why is it that a sports car is associated with the engine’s sound? Its from race cars and muscle cars of the heyday, but I think that people in the future will think about performance more than just a car sound. And electric vehicles already have gas cars beat in some aspects. Take acceleration for one. An electric car gets automatic full power when you step on the pedal, as opposed to a regular car that has to wait for the combustion process to occur and transmitting that power to your wheels before you actually go somewhere. An electric car’s torque puts that of gas car’s to shame!
Besides, if electric sports cars are made flashy with great performance and can kick butt, why care about one factor-the noise? I would definitely get one! Check out the Tesla at teslamotors.com
Oh god yes electric sport cars will be VERY popular. People go for the thrill of acceleration and electric cars are way faster on acceleration than gas cars. Horse power is nice but torque is what makes you accelerate fast and electric cars have all torque! More and more speed freeks are changing over to electric drag cars becasue they are beating gas race cars all the time and not just by a little but a lot. PLUS they are way less work to keep going and cost a lot a big lot less to operate.
