With aspirations to double its sales in the next 5 years to $10 billion, Advance Autoparts, has started the process by moving 40 jobs from company headquarters in Roanoke, VA, to the retail hotspot, Minneapolis, MN. Roanoke’s only Fortune 500 company, is looking to grow to a worldwide brand, by attracting experienced, dynamic retail employees from the Minneapolis job pool. Those who previously would not relocate to Roanoke, can compare positions to other Minnesota retailer’s Target, Macy’s North, and Best Buy. Advance’s current President and CEO, Darren Jackson, a former Best Buy executive, says the company is in what he calls “turnaround mode”. His senior management staff will now run out of Minneapolis and Advance employees will have the option of moving to Minnesota, or transferring internally with the company. Jackson also stresses that Advance will not leave its headquarters in Roanoke, where it has been established there since 1932, with 1600 at work there. It will actually be looking to add 12 merchandising positions in Virginia.
